January 26th

Host: Queen Connie Kaleta

Activity: Celebrating the Red Haute Divas 12th Anniversary

18 divas came out to celebrate the start of another year of fun at Clancy's Public House in Richmond. Business was attended to first, with Queen Connie handing out current rosters. Shirley, our purple purse holder, was happy to report that there were no disbursements for 2015. Diva Lisa has taken over the management of the Diva website. The decision was made to cancel Diva bunco after a good, long run of fun. The 2016 calendar of events was put together with hostessses for each month and most of the planned events. After a delicious lunch, each Diva presented her "Life in a Bag."  It turned out to be a fun way to discover more about one another. Who knew we had beauty contestants, a square dance caller, successful entrepreneurs, a choral singer, farm girls, and several teachers and world travelers?  Divas in attendance included Susie Adair, Sue Adam, Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Linda Dick, Becky Gay, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Virginia Lemmon, Sandy Livingston, Sheila Lubojasky, Dolores Patterson, Eva Quearry, Diane Schuler, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Brenda Stevenson, and Barbara Trotter.

Activity: Lunch at the American Girl Bistro in the American Girl store, Memorial City Mall

16 Divas were treated to a tour of the American Girl store by Personal Shopper Jessica.  She talked about the origins of the company and the different types of doll characters and accessories available for little girls of all ages.  Exploring and shopping were enjoyed and the doll hair salon was a big hit!  A tasty lunch was served at the Bistro, where each table-setting had a bag of American Girl catalogs and magazines, and each napkin had an American Girl hair tie napkin ring.  Favorite doll stories were shared, door prizes awarded, and everyone was given cute American Girl doll-sized red coin purses that had been made into wearable pins.  Several Divas journeyed to the mall food court where they had great fun riding the carousel while getting a lot of attention...Go Divas!! Divas in attendance were Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Linda Dick, Becky Gay, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Sandy Livingston, Lisa Pepin, Arlene Rivenes, Diane Schuler, Norma Smith, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Brenda Stevenson, Barbara Trotter, Susie Adair, and her mother Sue as our special guest.

Activity: Tour of the Fort Bend County Jail

The Divas took a most interesting tour of the Fort Bend County Jail.  Our tour guide, Ms. Sutton, was very personable as she shared a wealth of information acquired during her 24 years with the jail.  Although not a place that one would want to "visit" for any length of time, we were surprised with how clean and well-maintained the facility was.  It was a good opportunity to see our tax dollars at work and a very eye-opening experience for all!  Afterwards, we proceeded to Ruchi's Mexican Restaurant where we were met with tables decorated with lovely little spring baskets filled with treats that were ours to take home.  The 18 Divas in attendance included Sue Adam, Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Linda Dick, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Virginia Lemmon, Sandy Livingston, Sheila Lubojasky, Lisa Pepin, Eva Quearry, Diane Schuler, Arlene Rivenes, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Norma Smith, Barbara Trotter, and Ester Wleczyk.

Activity: Here's Hollywood at the Palladium Theatre

The "Here's Hollywood" event was an Oscar winner at the beautiful Palladium theatre.  The Divas were welcomed by a Hollywood-worthy slide show of us Diva "stars."  We were seated at a movie-themed table decorated with cute popcorn containers filled with movie-watching treats and our tickets.  A yummy buffet lunch was enjoyed by all.  Afterwards, our movie knowledge was tested by a challenging trivia game.  Ester and Sharon emerged as winners and were awarded trophies for their performances.  After all this, we still had a movie to watch.  Melissa McCarthy delivered her brand of raucous comedy as THE BOSS.  Those of us enjoying the experience were Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Becky Gay, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Sandy Livingston, Janet Moss, Dolores Patterson, Lisa Pepin, Arlene Rivenes, Diane Schuler, Brenda Stevenson, Barbara Trotter, Ester Wleczyk, Susie Adair, and her mother Sue as our special guest.

Activity: A Visit to the Enchanted Forest Nursery

The Enchanted Forest nursery provided an opportunity to observe the creation of three different fairy gardens and to learn about the special soil required to make the very cute and creative alternatives for gardeners.  The nursery gift shop offered unique finds and a very large selection of fairy/minature garden items.  Afterwards, the Divas enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Olive Garden in Rosenberg.  The table was decorated with patriotic red, white, and blue honoroing Memorial Day and those who have given their lives while serving and defending our nation.  A Memorial Day trivia quiz and word scramble activity revealed our knowledge of why the last Monday in May is a federal holiday.  Prizes were awarded to the winners.  Those enjoying the events were Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Linda Dick, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Sandy Livingston, Dolores Patterson, Eva Quearry, Evelyn Rosenbaum, and Barbara Trotter.  Although she was not able to attend, Susie's mother, Sue Cecil, has accepted the invitation to become a member of the Red Haute Divas - Welcome!

Activity: A Day at Janet's Beach House in Galveston

A fun day was had at Janet's beautiful beach home.  Janet chauffeured the group to Galveston while they engaged in lively conversation.  Becky walked everyone through a fun art project involving trinkets, shells, "magic" paper, sunlight, and water - perfect for the beach setting.  Janet prepared a delicious chicken salad served in croissants accompanied by fresh fruit and a variety of beverages.  Wonderful food and conversation was followed by a stroll on the beach in the colorful flip-flops and hats provided by the hostesses as birthday "happys" to take home.  Of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without something sweet and a candle to blow out as one makes a wish.  Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting were a special treat!  Afterwards, each lady found a comfortable spot and relaxed before reluctantly heading home.  Divas enjoying the sun and surf included Sue Adam, Becky Gay, Connie Kaleta, Sandy Livingston, Janet Moss, and Becky's special guest Miriam.

Activity: Bunco and Lunch at Clancy's Public House

Twenty Divas enjoyed a festive day of Bunco and Halloween fun.  Upon entering, a table spread with wonderful Halloween decor greeted us.  Bunco tables were spread with Halloween cloths, and at each lunch place-setting was an adorable jar filled with candy corn and topped with a ghostly lollipop for us to take home.  Monetary Bunco prizes were awarded to the winners and Lisa, Sandy, and Ester took home prizes for their jewelry creations. On a more serious note, Connie presented Dolores with items for her home on behalf of the Divas.  Dolores should be able to return home soon as repairs due to flooding damage are nearing completion.  Divas in attendance included Susie Adair, Sue Adam, Julie Beu, Sue Cecil, Linda Dick, Becky Gay, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Virginia Lemmon, Sandy Livingston, Sheila Lubojasky, Dolores Patterson, Lisa Pepin, Eva Quearry, Arlene Rivenes, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Diane Schuler, Barb Trotter, and Ester Wleczyk.  Shirley Beu stopped by but did not feel well enough to stay.  A special welcome to new Diva Jan Snell, also in attendance.

Sixteen Divas met at Mia Bella restaurant for food, fun, and sharing.  The tables were decorated with edible goodies including doughnut holes decorated to look like acorns and adorable ice cream cone cornucopias filled with dried fruit and nut mix.  The theme of the gathering was the sharing of holiday traditions/activities.  It was enjoyable listening to our ladies as past Thanksgivings and Christmases were remembered and shared with words, pictures, and special holiday memorabilia. Getting to know each other better is so much fun and an excellent way to kick off the holiday season!  Lovely Thanksgiving/autumn door prizes were awarded to several lucky ladies whose names were drawn.  Divas in attendance were Sue Adam, Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Linda Dick, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Virginia Lemmon, Sandy Livingston, Sheila Lubojasky, Dolores Patterson, Lisa Pepin, Arlene Rivenes, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Diane Schuler, and Jan Snell.

Activity: Holly Jolly Christmas Celebration at Sue's Home

The Divas met for a beautiful Christmas celebration in Sue's festively decorated home.  The theme was "Jesus is the Reason for the Season," and our hostesses did a wonderful job of helping us focus on the real meaning of Christmas while mingling and playing games.  Themed prizes were awarded to the winners of the games and also of the hats judged to be the most creative and theme-based.  We were even given the opportunity to play dress-up!  Two teams were formed and challenged to use props provided by the hostesses to transform into Mary, Joseph, shepherds and King to create a Nativity scene including a little lamb and baby Jesus. Christmas carols were sung and a right/left ornament exchange concluded the fun.  We were also served a delicious sit-down meal prepared by the hostesses.  The day was memorable for the fun and food but mostly for the friendships and bonding experience.  Divas in attendance included Susie Adair, Sue Adam, Julie Beu, Shirley Beu, Sue Cecil, Linda Dick, Becky Gay, Sharon Gorman, Pat Hayden, Connie Kaleta, Virginia Lemmon, Sandy Livingston, Sheila Lubojasky, Janet Moss, Dolores Patterson, Lisa Pepin, Arlene Rivenes, Evelyn Rosenbaum, Diane Schuler, Jan Snell, Barb Trotter, and Ester Wleczyk.
